NORTHLAND BOOKS is a well-established bookstore and has been serving customers seeking old, rare and out-of-print books for over thirty years.  With its stock of over 35,000 books, NORTHLAND offers items in a wide variety of subject areas.

Members of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of Canada and the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers, NORTHLAND is comfortable in its role as a buyer and seller of interesting, unusual and scholarly books.

Both Garry and Janice Shoquist, proprietors of NORTHLAND, are members in good standing of The National Archival Appraisal Board of Canada and provide evaluation services in matters of probate and estate settlement as well as for insurance purposes.

We are always interested in learning of your specific wants and do our best to locate items for you at a realistic market price.

Should you have items you feel might be of interest to us, either individual lots or entire collections, do not hesitate to contact us.

While we do have a large general stock, we do offer several specialty subject areas which are in various stages of development with items being added on a daily basis. Items additional to the listed subject areas on our website can be found on www.abebooks.com.

TERMS OF SALE. ALL ITEMS are subject to prior sale. Items may be reserved by telephone, fax or email. Available items will be held for 10 days pending receipt of payment or submission of credit details. To assist us in correctly identifying your requested item(s), your inquiry/order should include the item number as well as author, title and list price. We would prefer that, if possible, you would email or fax us with your initial inquiries. This gives us more time to search our large stock for your book(s).

REMITTANCE: Within Canada, payment by cheque or money order in Canadian funds should accompany your order (institutions excepted). Institutions may receive deferred billing upon request.

SALES TAX: Canadian residents should remit 7% GST with their order. The tax should be calculated on the total purchase price, including shipping charges. Those exempt from sales tax in Canada should submit their tax exemption number with their order. PURCHASES MAY BE CHARGED: We offer VISA and MASTERCARD credit card services. (We do not accept American Express.) If you use either of these cards to make a purchase by mail, telephone, fax, or email, please provide the following data at the time of your order: (1) the name of the cardholder exactly as it appears on the card; (2) your card number and (3) the expiration date of your card.

Items are insured at the customer's risk and expense.

SHIPPING TO U.S.A.: Standard shipping costs to the USA is C$7.50 (up to 1 kg) via surface mail or C$10.00 via air post. If you are ordering from the US be aware that an ordinary US postal money order is negotiable ONLY in the USA. Please ask for an INTERNATIONAL money order.

PACKING: We are experienced packers and take pride in packaging your books with extra care so they arrive as described and without damage.

SECURITY: We believe the risk of credit card interception to be rare and encourage customers to use this essentially safe and efficient method of payment. Recognizing that there are many ways for a credit card number to fall into the wrong hands, there are ways you the customer can take extra precautions when forwarding your card number by fax or email: (a) Send half the numbers in one message, the balance in another, or (b)spell out the numbers rather than using digits, or (c)simply remove the spaces between the
groups of numbers on the card.

A FINAL WORD TO OUR CUSTOMERS: With the recent proliferation of internet auction sites and massive data bases where the seller's experience and good business practices are all too often unknown or questionable, it is more advisable than ever that you work with dealers in whom you have confidence. We suggest you look for the insignia of the A.B.A.C (Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of Canada), the A.B.A.A. (The Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America) and/or I.L.A.B. ( The International League of Antiquarian Booksellers) when considering a purchase. These organizations , composed of the leading booksellers world wide, require their member booksellers to have a proven track record of experience and to abide by a detailed code of ethics.
